Backups do not keep business hours, so the phone is answered at any hour, including nights, weekends and holidays. If sewage is coming up indoors, stop putting water into the system — no laundry, no dishwasher, no long showers — and stay off the affected drains until the truck arrives.

Keep people and pets away from standing water outside and away from a lid that is open or has sunk. Most emergency calls are a full tank, a blockage between the house and the tank, or a pump that has stopped.
